How this calculator works
Each year, the withdrawal is taken at the start of the year and the rest of the pot grows at the rate you choose. The withdrawal then rises by the inflation rate you pick, so it keeps roughly the same buying power.
The "steady" withdrawal is the highest starting amount, rising the same way, that would last until age 95 at your chosen growth rate.
Real investments don't grow by the same amount every year. Falls early in retirement do more damage than the average suggests; see sequence risk in our drawdown guide. Treat the result as a rough guide and test a lower growth rate too. Withdrawals are shown before income tax.
